Classes for 11th Graders

  • Portrait Drawing with Ms. Leake

    For students in grades 7-12
    date/time: Wednesdays,  January 25-April 5 (no class 3/15); 3:30-4:45 pm
    instructor: Jeanette Leake (Hutchison middle/upper school art teacher and portrait painter)
    cost:  $225
    Whether you are just learning or are more advanced, improve your drawing skills. Move at your own pace and level of experience. The goal will be to understand the main principles of drawing the anatomy of the face as well as capturing a likeness. 
  • ACT Mini Preps

    For girls and boys in grades 9-12; 9-10 grade students MUST have completed Algebra II.

    Session II: Saturday, December 3 | 1:00-3:00 pm  
    Session III: Saturday, January 28 | 1:00-3:00 pm

    instructor: ACT Prep Instructor
    cost: $50 per session
    Students will take portions of the ACT in Math, Science, English, and Reading, review answers, and reinforce test-taking strategies.
  • ACT Prep for April Test

    For girls and boys in grades 9-12; 9-10 grade students MUST have completed Algebra II. 

    date/time: Monday-Friday, March 27-31; 3:40-5:40 pm
    instructor: ACT Prep Instructor
    Cost: Science/Math M-W Only: $300
    English/Reading TH-F Only: $250
    Full Week/All Subjects: $400
    This class takes a deep dive into what it takes to succeed on the ACT. Participants will examine the tendencies of the ACT and learn general and content-specific strategies. Students will also gain valuable experience by working through problems from actual ACT tests.
  • Core Ballet

    For girls and boys in grades 7-12
    School Year Length Course

    Tuesdays, 5:15-6:00 pm
    September 6-November 15 (no class 10/4) and January 10-April 4(no class 2/14, 3/14)
    instructor: Katy Stanfield (dancer and dance instructor)
    cost: $400
    This class is designed for anyone in grades 7-12 who wants to improve ballet skills for strength, flexibility, accuracy, and artistry. This class will count for US Crain Hours and is required for Pre-Pointe. Leotard or form fitting top with black leggings or form fitting yoga pants, ballet skirt, with pink or skin-toned ballet shoes.
  • Destination Imagination (DI)

    For girls and boys in grades 3-12
    date/time: September - May as scheduled, Tournament dates TBD
    instructor: Amanda Killen (DI TN Board Member & team manager) & Various Team Managers
    cost: $300, plus tournament travel expenses
    Build your creativity, design thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork skills on grade level teams. Teams solve one of six open-ended, STEAM-based challenges to present at tournaments. Teams will meet two afternoons per week and/or on Saturday mornings. Teams will present challenge solutions at the regional and state levels and commit to attending Global Finals if they advance from the state tournament.   • Pointe/Pre-Pointe

    For girls and boys in Middle School Dance Company and Core Ballet
    School-year length course
     
    date/time: Thursdays, 5:15-6:00 pm
    September 15-December 15 (no class 10/6, 11/24) and January 12-April 5 (no class 3/16)
    instructor: Katy Stanfield (dancer and dance instructor)
    cost: $400
    This class takes the dancer to the next level of strength, possibility, and commitment. Students must be taking MSDC and Core Ballet to attend. Leotard or form fitting top with black leggings or form fitting yoga pants, ballet skirt, with pink or skin-toned ballet shoes.

    Students will choreograph and perform a dance in the dance concert on Tuesday, April 4 at 6:00 pm and the school matinee on Wednesday, April 5.
  • Pottery

    For girls and boys in grades 2-4 and 5-12
     
    date/time: Wednesdays
      Grades 2-4 // 2:10-3:10 pm
      Grades 5-12 // 3:10-4:10 pm
    instructors: Kristi Duckworth (ceramist & painter)
    cost: $250 per session or $475 for both sessions, includes supplies

    Develop creative concepts in clay. Learn the techniques of throwing on the wheel, hand building, and combining altered forms.
  • Private Music Lessons

    For girls and boys in grades K-12

    Private lessons for 30 or 45 minutes in one or more instruments offered. All skill levels. 

    An email will go out to everyone once school starts with more information, as well as, dates and times available for lessons.

    Space is limited.
  • Upper School Dance Company

    For girls and boys in grades 9-12
    School-year length course
     
    date/time: Wednesdays, 3:30-4:45 pm and Fridays, 3:45-5:00 pm
    September 7-December 2 (no class 9/23, 10/5, 10/07, 10/28, 11/23, 11/25) & January 11-April 5 (no class 1/27, 2/17, 3/15, 3/17, 4/7)
    instructor: Louisa Koeppel (Hutchison dance teacher and Director of Hutchison Creative Ballet Center)
    cost: $750
    Develop contemporary movement and expression skills while earning fitness credit. Attend two classes per week to improve technique and acquire strength, mobility, and artistry in a collaborative atmosphere.

    US Company members will choreograph and present dance pieces throughout the school year and perform in the dance concert on Tuesday, April 4 at 6:00 pm and the school matinee on Wednesday, April 5.
