Learn how to create a ballet from the ground up. Dancers will learn how to tell a story by creating their characters and choreography, costumes, and scenery in this week-long ballet experience.

Please note that this free summer class is being taught by one of our rising seniors, Iris Bird, as part of her myExperience project at Hutchison’s Institute for Responsible Citizenship. Upper School girls in this program create a unique project in an area of personal interest and, in cases such as this one, conduct field research by teaching a curriculum that they have written. Iris will be in charge of the class day to day, while also being assessed and supervised by the Institute faculty, including Helen Guyton.

Calling all Fancy Nancy fans! Celebrate Fancy Nancy with a unique (that’s fancy for a one-of-a-kind) camp. Imagine the adventurous fun you will have at this summer camp filled with fancy stories, creative crafts, pirouettes (that’s a fancy ballet name for spins), tea parties, fancy indoor campout, spa day, and other activities that are tres magnifique. Based on books from the Fancy Nancy series by Jane O’Conner.

Use the flowers at the Hutchison farm to make beautiful preserved and living art! Girls will make flower crowns while also practicing patterning and counting. Explore the beauty of the farm with petal suncatchers, sun prints, and floral printmaking.

Campers will learn about the history and evolution of jewelry while creating beautiful masterpieces of their own. Every camper will learn to make different pieces of jewelry, show off their creations, and bring home a variety of pieces.

Embark on a magical journey with Magic Treehouse Adventure Camp! Inspired by Mary Pope Osborne's beloved Magic Tree House series, this camp offers a blend of storytelling, exploration, and hands-on activities that bring the adventures of Jack and Annie to life. Campers will delve into different Magic Tree House books, exploring diverse settings and historical periods. Through interactive readings and discussions, children will engage with the stories and characters, fostering a love for literature. Engage in activities that mirror the adventures of Jack and Annie, including nature walks, treasure hunts, and so much more! Explore your creativity in clay and build your pottery skills while making whimsical and fun hand-building projects such as toad houses, mugs, and wind chimes. Also, try your hand at throwing on the wheel.

In this two-week course, you will learn all the fundamentals of pottery from hand-building techniques, to wheel throwing and sculpting. Learn or expand your knowledge of the tools, materials, and techniques used in pottery making. No prior experience is necessary -- our instructor will be there to guide you through every step of the process. By the end of the camp, you will have the skills and confidence to create beautiful, functional, and unique pottery pieces of your own.
