Advanced Pottery
For girls in grades 5-12

Develop creative concepts in clay. Learn the techniques of throwing on the wheel, hand building, and combining altered forms.

Hutchison Chess Club
For girls in grades 3-8
Date/Time: Tuesdays, January 7-March 25 (no class on 3/11) from 3:30-4:30 PM
Instructors: Mid-South Chess Coaches and Joe Koelsch (Hutchison Middle School Math Teacher)
Cost: $290
Hutchison's Chess Club is a space where girls of all skill levels and backgrounds can come together to learn the game. Students will explore every aspect of chess from the movement of pieces on the board to the strategies to bring an opponent to check-mate. We'll build skill, confidence, and sportsmanship as we learn and compete. Most importantly, we'll have fun playing a game that will stay with them forever.

Hutchison Swim Team - CFE
For Hutchison girls in grades 3-5

Practices Mondays and Wednesdays January 8 - February 27 (no practice 1/20, 2/197) (13 practices) from 5:30-6:30 pm at the Nuber YMCA

Meets: Thursday, January 30 and February 27
Coaches: Cheryl Parker and Bryan Parker (Swim Coaches)
Cost: $425*

*Swimmers will need to purchase swimsuits using the options sent by the coaches. Once purchased please deliver to the CFE office in the Abston Early Childhood building by December 9th so that we can have the Hutchison logo added before the first practice.
Swimmers will practice twice weekly at the Ric Nuber YMCA and participate in two swim meets. Makeup days will be on Thursdays as needed. Swimmers must be “deep water safe” and be able to get across one length of the pool in any way. They will play fun games, and learn the four competitive swim team strokes, practice relays, starts, and turns!

Middle School Dance Company
For girls in grades 5-8
School-year length course
Dates/Time: Tuesdays & Thursdays, 4:00-5:15 pm
September 3-November 19 (no class on 10/8), and January 7-April 1 (no class on 3/11)
Instructor: Louisa Koeppel (Hutchison dance teacher) & Katy Stanfield (dancer and dance instructor)
Cost: $850
Middle School Dance Company focuses on modern dance and creative ballet with an emphasis on dance-making and ensemble performance.
Students will choreograph and perform in the dance concert on Tuesday, April 1 at 6:00 pm and the school matinee on Wednesday, April 2. Rehearsals will tentatively be on Thursday 3/27, Friday 3/28, and Monday 3/31.

Private Music Lessons
For girls and boys in grades K-12
Private lessons for 30 or 45 minutes in piano, violin, viola, voice, or harp are offered—all skill levels. Students who took lessons in the fall have priority for the spring semester. If you are interested in your child starting lessons please contact afterschool@hutchisonschool.org to learn of the open lesson spots.
*You must have access to the instrument you are taking lessons for to practice outside of your lesson.

Safe Sitter Babysitting Class
For girls in grades 5-8
Dates/Time: Mondays, January 13-February 10 (no class on 1/20) from 3:15-5:15 PM
Instructor: Lisa Curry (RRT, BBA, owner of 901 Vital Training LLC)
Cost: $225, includes all supplies
Safe Sitter Babysitter classes are designed to prepare students to be safe when they’re home alone, watching younger siblings, or babysitting. The classes are filled with fun games and role-playing exercises that teach skills for safety, child care, first aid, rescue, life, and business. Adding the American Heart Association’s Heartsaver CPR certification (adult, child, and infant) makes this the complete babysitter training for your student!

Strings Choir
For girls in grades 5-12
Date/Time: Thursdays, January 9-March 27 (no classes 3/13) from 3:45-4:45 PM
Instructor: Zoe Johnson (strings instructor)
Cost: $315
The Strings Choir will learn music theory, and composition, and rehearse music to be performed during the strings lesson recital. Students will learn a variety of repertoire, including classical compositions, contemporary works, and arrangements of popular music. A strings choir is a musical ensemble primarily composed of string instruments, such as violins, violas, cellos, and double basses. The rich, warm tones of string instruments allow for a diverse range of dynamics and expressions. The unity and depth of sound created by the combination of various string instruments offer a unique listening experience that highlights the beauty of string music.
*Students must have at least one year of experience playing a stringed instrument.

Taekwondo
For girls in grades 2-6
Date/Time: Tuesdays, January 7-March 25 (no class on 3/11) from 3:45-4:30 PM
Instructor: Coach Honeycutt (Midtown Taekwondo)
Cost: $250
Involve yourself in martial arts to learn discipline and skills that will help you in school and beyond. In the final class, students will test for stripes and belts. No uniform is required; however, you may wear your own uniform or purchase one through Midtown Taekwondo.
